Born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, iVo’s love of music began early on, when he asked his parents for drum lessons at the age of 7. By 13 years old, he got his first professional gig when he auditioned as a percussionist in the prestigious Youth Pioneer Philharmonic Orchestra led by the world-renowned Conductor Prof. Vladi Simeonov. iVo spent the rest of his teenage years touring the world playing at major concert venues and festivals across Europe, North and South America. Performing at such a high level at such a young age helped iVo build valuable performance experience and grow as a musician and a human being. At 22, iVo moved to the US where he spent the next thirty years working as a “blue-collar’’ drummer. There was no venue too big or too small, as long as the gig was challenging and provided an opportunity for iVo to learn and play the music that inspired him. By the late ’90s, iVo developed an interest in teaching, and in 2002 he joined the staff at the Seattle Drum School, which included some of the best and most eclectic drum teachers in the Northwest. At SDS iVo developed as a teacher and in the process became one of the busiest instructors at the school. In 2009 he relocated to Los Angeles to start his drum school, Drum Lessons Los Angeles. Over the last decade, the drum school has grown and built a solid reputation as a place where drummers can build strong fundamental skills in drumming, and learn how to gain control and develop their timing and consistency by following a step by step Movement Method.
